Srirangapatna
Founded in 894 AD, Srirangapatna gained prominence in the 18th century as the seat of power for Hyder Ali and his son, Tipu Sultan. Hyder Ali made it his administrative center, and Tipu fortified the town and resisted British colonization. Tipu's summer palace, Daria Daulat Bagh, built in 1784, is now a museum showcasing his achievements. The fort, originally built in 1454 and later strengthened by Tipu, includes the Juma Masjid, Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, and dungeons for British prisoners. In 1799, British forces led by General Lord Wellesley besieged the fort, killing Tipu and bringing Srirangapatna under British control.
