community art
Stepwell’s base in India, known as The Land, has been developed by the Sahi family into a vibrant creative space since the mid-1980s. Our pottery studio, designed for workshops, is equipped with a wood-fired raku kiln, both electric and kick wheels, glaze equipment and tools for welding and woodcarving. This space is primarily used for art workshops catering to both children and adults.

Creative workshops
Stepwell’s outreach programme is centred around creative workshops. These interactive and collaborative sessions bring together adults and children from diverse backgrounds, fostering intercultural understanding and artistic development. Through these workshops, we have explored history, culture, and the natural environment.

Craft Products
We love products that are both beautiful and functional. Our ceramic explorations have resulted in tableware, lighting fixtures, and decorative hanging screens or mobiles. We have also produced intricate welded metalwork, carved wooden panels for doors and windows, and recycled coloured glass bottles to create translucent walls.

Mosaics & Murals
Our studio facilities have been used to design and create large-scale murals for public spaces. As part of this process, we trained young people from the neighbouring village to contribute to these projects. Many of our clients were hospitals and schools, and we worked closely with them to develop artworks that reflected their values and identities.
